Nika Abernathy
Tomboy. Lost princess of a fey kingdom. Loyal. Crude.
Nika was taken in by Muriel Abernathy in Lucan at a very young when she was found in the forest nearby. She left Lucan with Donovan, Rhiannon, Malachor, and Rousseau. After the party went their separate ways, Nika delved further into her true origins. In the year 1355, she was contacted by the Court of Stars, a political organization within the Feywild. Her true origin as a princess of the Feywild was revealed to her. Even though Nika has only left the middle world for two years, in reality, it was ten years within the Fey.
In Third, Nika has returned to the material plane because the Fateweaver said her presence was important in the coming events. But even now, Gnaw, a patron of scavengers, stalks her from the shadows, jealous that his half-sister returned to the Feywild after he chased her out.
History
Nika was found living in the forest near the tiny town of Lucan, ’rescued’, and put in the care Muriel Abernathy. Frustrated with Nika’s wild personality and untamable will, the religious spinster forced her to work in the temple, hoping a fear of the gods would tame her feral spirit, but Nika refused to be broken. History
Early Life
It was recently revealed that Nika originated from the Feywild, which to Nika was not at all surprising. Nika has always noticed flowers and other plants react to her presence, and Nika would often take the visage of a fey creature in times of intense anger or stress. Nika remembers very little of her birthplace and has no memory at all of her biological parents. Nika does have very faint memories of playing with her childhood friend, Erden, and being taught how to channel primal energies. After she was found in the woods surrounding Lucan, she was adopted by a religious spinster named Muriel Abernathy and thrown into servitude at the town’s temple. The priests there attempted for years to urbanize her and teach her the sheltered life of a nun, but every attempt ended in utter failure. The high priest of the temple suspected her of being spawn of the Primal Beast, treating her with fear and malice. Eventually the clergy gave up on any attempt to civilize her, and from then on merely forced her to do menial labor on the temple grounds, but Nika often shirked her duties in favor of frolicking in the woods. At 17, Nika and her friends ran away from Lucan in the pursuit of adventure.
Life as an Adventurer
After rescuing some of the local children from a group of cultists with the help Donovan, Rhiannon, Mr. Rosseau, and the strange town leper known as Malachor, it was discovered that the leper was in reality and Illithid. News quickly spread to the townspeople, and Malachor knew that they would chase him from the town. Malachor decided to leave Lucan that day, and seeing an opportunity to escape her confining guardians, Nika, along with the others, decided to go with him. That day, the group started their adventure. The group’s first act outside of Lucan was a botched attempt to rescue a caravan full of slaves. Due to a badly cast sleep spell by Donovan, the wagon crashed, killing several of the slaves and one of the horses. Nika, with Malachor’s help, nursed the horse back to health, and named it Heren (The Sylvan word for ‘Lucky’). Over the course of her travels, Nika has honed her primal abilities, combating oppressors, bandits, and threats to nature’s delicate balance.
Friends and Companions
Kyruske Rosseau
Ever since Mr. Rosseau arrived in Lucan, Nika saw him as a kindred spirit. They rarely said a word to each other, but Nika considered Rosseau as the closest thing she had to a father. Nika was injured Rosseau’s pet dog, Asril by accident while leaping from roof to roof. She slipped an fell, landing on the dog and injured it’s leg. Nika treated the dog with medicinal herbs, but Rosseau still reacted with a degree of anger. Nika never really understood the strange tension between Rosseau and Donovan, considering there bickering dysfunctional, to say the least. When Rosseau left the group to search for his origins in the Northern Wastes, Nika was somewhat saddened, but completely understood his need to find his roots.
Rhiannon Mattson
Since childhood, Nika and Rhiannon has been thick as thieves. They are practically sisters. Nika and Rhi had many an adventure while in Lucan, from a simple dip in the pond to a daring rescue of some local kids from bloodthirsty cultists. Rhiannon is much more reserved than Nika, and acts as the logical counter-balance to Nika’s wild soul. Nika is very protective of Rhiannon, especially when it comes to men. Nika is a very good judge of character, and doesn’t trust easily. When great danger strikes, Nika sometimes regrets ever leaving Lucan, for her life of freedom hardly makes ups for the risk of losing Rhiannon or Donovan.
Donovan Jonason
Nika has known Donovan since she arrived in the town of [Lucan. She has always counted Donovan among her closest friends, and considers him to be like a dorky kid brother. Donovan sometimes worries Nika, with his short temper and meddling in dark magics. Nika doesn’t pretend to know anything arcane. Donovan once summoned a demon with a dark arcane tome. Nika understands nothing of how such things occur. She only saw a horrific and bestial tyrant burst forth from the earth. Another ultimate oppressor targeting her friends. She was frightened to say the least, but could not help trying to intimidate the demon, to no avail. When Donovan returned safely from the demon, she was relieved and upset with Donovan’s recklessness. Donovan has a cutie butt.
Malachor
When Nika first saw Malachor, she sensed that there was something… not quite right about him. Nika always felt an eerie fascination whenever she would she him every morning in the temple. Nika would sometimes sneak off into the woods and spy on Malachor’s small cabin. Admittedly, Nika was a little horrified when Malachor’s face was revealed, but it soon turned into a strange curiosity. When Malachor was being chased out of Lucan, Nika felt pity that he was being persecuted solely for his alien appearance, and she felt bitter towards the closed-minded townsfolk who turned to violence at the first sign of someone different. Deep down, Nika wanted to help the poor creature, so she convinced Rhiannon to run away from Lucan. Nika is sometimes annoyed by Malachor’s piousness and over-protective nagging. She sees a hint of her adoptive mother, Muriel Abernathy, in Malachor. In many ways Nika considers Malachor a sort of weird uncle.
Akmemnos
Nika has always had a bad feeling about Akmemnos, and him betraying the party in the Bloodlord’s keep only cemented her deep distrust. When Akmemnos returned claiming to have turned over a new leaf, Nika didn’t believe him at all, and Nika is a very good judge of character. Nika has already threatened him that she would claim his remaining horn if he betrayed them again. When Akmemnos deserted her along with Donovan and Malachor, taking Rhiannon with him, Nika wasn’t sure if she had been betrayed again or not. Nika begrudgingly tolerates Akmemnos’ presence.
Erden
Nika has very faint memories of a young Eladrin named Erden that she befriended in the Feywild in her youth. Nika sometimes relives these days in dreams, games of tag and endless frolicking. Recently, Erden found his way to the woods near Silvercoast, where he met Nika. He then informed Nika of her Feywild origins, and returned to the Feywild soon after.
